Having a heck of a time with displacement. I’m attaching a screen shot to help visualize…
I’ve created a surface in the form of a ring, used pushpull to lower a section that I’d like to texture using displacement. It works, sort of… It would be perfect if I could adjust the initial quality to high or very high. I get full functionality on entire (closed) objects but limited functionality on surfaces within the closed object.
I’ve tried several workarounds, like recreating the surface to be unsegmented, if it were segmented originally. I can then have the full functionality of displacement settings…until I join that surface to the rest of the object. At that point it reverts to this truncated functionality.
What am I missing here??
Happy to upload a demo file if needed.
Hi Gary, In this case you need to assign displacement to the ENTIRE ring, make the necessary settings, but DO NOT turn on displacement. Then select only the required surface and turn on displacement only for it. Usually I assign a material different from the default to such surfaces, so that through the materials tab I can quickly select the zones I need. Good luck.

Thank you for the response, I will try that in my projects!

Yes, again thanks, that solution worked in my instance. I will experiment more with applying different textures to different parts of a project using this technique!
Kindly,
