Join displaced polysurface with non displaced?


I’m having trouble designing some jewelry where I want to only displace certain surfaces of the object.

For example: I want to design a ring with the outer surface displaced and the inner one untouched.

How can I join those two back together without displacing the inner surface?

You’d have to assemble it as a mesh, which is not the easiest thing in Rhino but…

You could also use more elaborate texture mapping to confine the displacement to where you want it.

Could you explain what exactly you mean by more elaborate texture mapping?
