Dimensions in layout view don't like perspective

Hi all,
I would like to know if there’s a reason or a logic behind the fact that Rhino’s layouts can not get accurate dimensions of detail views set to anything other than plan views ? If you try and create dimaligned dimensions of an isometric detail view. the numbers are totally off with no real logic to it.

I believe it’s been like this for as long as I’ve used the software, and I got used to working around it, but as I was training a friend recently this issue popped up, and he was really surprised of this behaviour which is not consistent with other CAD software’s behaviour. And frankly a bit quirky.
Made me think how much time it would save if I could get dimaligned to work in the layout space with perspective and isometric detail views. Any chance that could be solved McNeel ?

Here’s a piece with dimaligned in layout space :

Same piece with dimaligned in perspective view :

Thank you for your thoughts on this issue,
Sincerely,
Joaquim

The key to understand is Dimension Annotations are always created coplanar to the current Construction Plane in the viewport where you are creating them.

Hi Joaquim -

As John mentioned, the active CPlane is used to create the dimension. We have a feature request on the list and I added this thread. RH-50849 [3D Dimension] (not public).

Thank you Wim and John for your explanations, looking forward to this feature being implemented, I would definitely be using it very often, as I’m sure a lot of others would.
Sincerely,
Joaquim
