Dimension Bug

@PeterB - Thanks for reporting the problem.

I believe you that it seems random, but it’s not random. Computers are about the least random things there are.
There is something that causes the problem. Often it’s not obvious what that is or how it relates, but it exists.

I have tried and I know others here have tried to get this to happen and so far we haven’t been able to reproduce this problem.

We ask questions that probably seem silly or not to the point, but at least at the time we ask them, they seem to be about missing information that we think will help us figure out what’s happening.
In cases like this one, there is almost surely some action or sequence of actions that you do that we haven’t anticipated or come across that exposes a bug in Rhino.
Often there is a lag between when that action happens and when the problem shows up. For example, there may be something you do at the end of a command sequence that sets Rhino in a state that the next Dim command won’t work right, but it may be a while until you get back to trying a Dim command again. That makes it hard to connect the two events.

Anyway, we’ll keep looking, and maybe you’ll recognize something along the way too that you can tell us about.
Thanks

Somewhat related: In addition to dimensions just stop working, I also have the problem of strange dimensions lines shooting off the page into infinity, and the only solution seems to be to delete all the dimensions and start over. I’ve also tried deleting just a few dimensions at a time until I find the culprit, but it’s too time-consuming when I need to get shit done.

That might or might not be RH-48833 but as long as you don’t supply a sample that we can reproduce, there’s no way of knowing…

okay, it’s happening now.

I’ll leave the file open so you can ask me to check things. I was dimensioning and doing continued dimensions when I switched back to separate dimensions when the “dim” command stopped responding.

Great - thanks.
When you start to type Dim and just have Di, does anything autocomplete on the command line?
If not, when you type Li, does anything autocomplete?

Okay, so if i type “di” it does show “dim” way down the line.

This might help, If I click on it and select New Chain, I can start a new dimension chain. or I can turn off continue and start a new dimension

And now it is working as it should…

OK, can you press F2 and send me all of what’s in the command history?

Did you undo or delete dimensions or do something that might cause Continue dimensions to not be able to find the dimension it’s trying to continue from? I wonder if there’s a bug that shows up when something in the sequence gets messed up.

Nope, just tried to do another one.

OK, well maybe I can find something in the command history. Thanks

my pleasure… strange one

Did you send the command history text somehow?

no, I don’t know how to do that

Press F2
In the window that shows up, type CTRL-A and CTRL-C then in a message here, press CTRL-V
