Delete all meshes yet save still taking same time

Hi,
V5
took a file, saved it as a similar name. took ages to save.
aha methinks, meshes, and behold two of them.
delete the layers with the meshes on, do a save, same long wait, 30 secs or so.
What do I have to do to have Rhino understand there are no meshes to take ages to save now ?

what happens if you “save small” ?
(no render and no analyse meshes are stored - but will be recalculated when opened / needed)
