Decal Appears Low Quality

Hello,
Quick question, seems like I saw the answer 5 years ago, but I can’t locate it now!
I’m applying a decal to a mug and the when in the Rhino render mode for the viewport it looks sharp.
When I render in Bella or V-Ray it is soft.

I don’t know if Bella and V-Ray use the baked versions when decals are used. Raytraced/Rhino Render in Rhino 7 and Rhino 8 use the original decals with some shader setup to incorporate directly into the material on which they are decalled (essentially mix them into the material base color, driven by the decal data to locate properly). Rendered mode does something similar for OpenGL/Metal.

For Bella @jdhill will know, for V-Ray that’d be @Nikolay .

Thanks for the quick response and forwarding!

bella currently uses the baked versions, and I would recommend using bella texture projection instead of rhino decals (eventually I intend to read the decal info and automate this)

@david.woeltjen if you need help with that please see the discord link in my profile here

Thanks! I will give texture projection a try and post the results.

V-Ray is using the baked version.
Similar to Bella, there is a V-Ray decal available in the plugin, which can use whatever texture you like in its full quality
