Anyone wanting to set what ever key board short cuts they want should look into the BetterTouchTool software.
Interesting, thanks for the suggestion, but won’t that work only with commands that have a menu item?
It will work with any command that can be programmed on a keyboard shortcut. I like to use ‘shift’ in combination with other near-by keys on the left side of my keyboard for my frequently used shortcuts but unfortunately Rhino8 doesn’t allow shit as a modifier. What I do then is program a command to any old keyboard shortcut in rhino and then set the keyboard shortcut I want in Better Touch Tool to activate the shortcut I set in Rhino. For example, I like to use ‘shift+Z’ for delete (I hate having to take my hand off my mouse or reaching across my keyboard to hit delete), so in Rhino I programmed ’ option+Z’ to delete then in BTT programmed ‘shift+Z’ to activate ‘option+z’.
Seems like they have added way more shortcuts. Still not customizable but the list now includes almost all the combinations. Thank you for the update Rhino!
Not really. Unfortunately, you can’t assign keys like +, < or \ which are at quite ergonomic places on the keyboard…
This is being worked on. We should have support for these other keys in 8.12 which we should start shipping release candidates for next week.
amazing! thanks team McNeel!
The latest 8.12 release candidate includes a new UI for keyboard shortcuts that includes the ability to set many shortcuts that you weren’t able to set in earlier versions of Rhino 8. Please let us know if this new UI works for you
Not supported
Amazing! Thank you a lot!
I noticed just one little bug there. Some existing Shortcuts are not displayed correctly. For example i assigned ctrl+A to MaxViewport. It only shows A in the Keyboard window and invalid shortcut in the edit window (the shortcut works normally).
Also it would be very helpful, if we can sort the shortcuts. For example rhino default and user defined? But it is just a wish…
Hi -
This might already be reported as RH-83731 Wrong keypresses are shown
Added to the list as RH-83740 Keyboard Shortcuts: Sort Shortcuts

Hello!
Can we please also have CTRL+SHIFT+ALT+key shorts, please?
I use those in other apps, too, and fail to see a reason why they ain’t available in Rhino.
Thanks!
These should be supported now. Are you seeing an error when trying to make one?
I just installed 8.12.24254.14001, and I see that the keyboard shortcut list has been reworked. Look good!
There still aren’t any CTRL+ALT+SHIFT+… (all three modifier keys that is) shortcuts in there, though, if I’m not totally blind…
We are only showing shortcuts that are defined and the defaults for Rhino do not include three modifier key shortcuts. You would need to create a new shortcut and press the three modifiers to define one.
Hey, that’s cool! Thanks, got it!
Ok, one more wish, since you are at it:
Utilize the number pad keys… it’s on the pile.
Should that work, I’m going to put top, front, left, … on 5, 2, 4, etc. Quite handy.
Thanks!
mine says valid, but it does not work, using alt
+ tab
to toggle _SubDDisplayToggle, all it does is using tab
only to do whatever i assigned it to
Why is SHIFT still not available on its own as a modifier key??
Its the best modifier key on the keyboard!!!
its big!
its easy to hit!
there is one on both sides of the keyboard - great for both lefties and righties!!
whyyyy???
Please can you add a copy [or export/import] button so we can copy our [custom] shortcuts list to the WIP .
- I requested this in How to copy custom hotkeys into the WIP? Some days ago, but it seemed to have gone under the radar .
thanks a lot
