Creating an alternating pattern and subtracting one surface from another

Hi all,

I’m struggling with 2 things here:

  1. Creating a checkered pattern on a surface grid. What I can’t figure out is how to select every other cell in both directions (so it alternates by row and column, like a true chessboard).

  1. Subtracting circles from the grid. How do I subtract those circles from the grid cells (so each cell becomes a frame with a circular cutout)?

I’ve attached my gh file. Please let me know as soon as possible,

Thanks!

Yes this works! Thanks so much!

Without Surface Split, and the ability to switch between even and odds:

Or maybe I misread, and a single surface is what was desired:
