Crash accessing Custom material > Customize

Is anybody else seeing this?

Go to:
Options > View > Display Modes > Shaded > Shading settings > Color & material usage > Custom material > Customize…
When I hit the Customize… button, the Custom Object Attributes Settings dialog box opens but immediately an error box opens on top of that:

Rhino.exe - System Error
A new guard page for the stack cannot be created.

Clicking OK takes down Rhino.

Hi Wim - checking it, thanks.

hmm - no, seems OK here so far. Does it happen every time on your setup?

-Pascal

Hi Pascal,
Every single time, yes.
Now also after a reboot.
And also on a new mode where I set the Color & material usage to custom.

@stevebaer, @jeff - does either of you have an idea about this? So far I cannot reproduce it.

-Pascal

First time I’ve heard or seen anything like this… Not even sure what the error is indicating…might be a new Eto thing for the UI…but I have no idea. @stevebaer and/or @JohnM might have better info.

Hi wim,

Unfortunately i also get the identical error!!

McNeel please…do something to fix it.

I’m running on a laptop Clevo i7 4790K 4.4 Ghz, 32Gb Ram, NVIDIA Quadro K3100m 4Gb 768 cuda cores,
Windows 8.1 Pro 64Bit.

Nice day!

I don’t believe any of that UI has been converted to Eto. When I bring up the customize dialog it looks like an RDK dialog. @johnc is this a dialog that you work on ?

@stevebaer Which dialog? The customization dialog, or the error dialog that Wim is reporting? I wrote the customize dialog over a decade ago…and it hasn’t changed since. I guess the first thing to get answered is what and where is the dialog that Wim is seeing coming from and why?

The customization dialog is what I was referring to. The error dialog is a standard windows dialog (probably for a stack overflow).

@stevebaer FYI This ‘Custom object’ dialog is not an RDK dialog. I did not manage to repeat the crash either.

Well you guys are lucky - i get as far as clicking on “customize” and the whole computer locks and has to be restarted…no error message.

What kind of GPU does your computer have? There is an OpenGL preview on that dialog and it may be causing a driver crash.

Thanks; this may be the problem. We are experiencing some problems with the ATI drivers and are frantically (yes frantically) working to fix this. Does the WIP work at all when you go into rendered display mode?

Nope!
Well - I can get it to sort of work, but anything that doesn’t have a material assigned to it just displays a sort of silhouette blob…not uninteresting, but not really what one expects if you understand…

Well, there goes that theory that it is AMD related.
