Convert from box to sub D

I’m new to sub D modelling and can’t figure out why this Hand did not convert to sub D surfaces.
I created 1 four sided sub D surface and expanded from there.

I’m trying to figure out why all the edges didn’t change at the same time.

Here is the issue. When I do a gumball extrude and then reflect and then select and hit the tab key only part of the piece softens up to a sub D surfaces. Please give it a shot and let me know if the same thing happens with you.

just remove these folds and you can extrude

Sorry i missed the detail on your image.

There was something weird going on with your file. I played around with it a little to create a decent base mesh for a hand model. Ended up deleting some faces and re-extruding. You can play with it as you see fit.
