To my knowledge, that is not possible yet. Logged in RH-50715.
Thank you Dan! Hate to ask but can we expect it soon or rather not so soon?
Not so soon. We do not have a good timeline for this one yet.
Is there any update on this? I’ve recently become very attached to the Fennec plugin, but it’s compiled in GHPY format. Would love to get it working on Mac; especially since Rhino 8 for Mac is finally as pleasurable to use as Rhino for Windows.
Hey @edelmetal,
It is unfortunately (still) not possible, as IronPython cannot compile in .NET Core, which Rhino for Mac uses exclusively.
However, in Rhino 8 you can now use the ScriptEditor
to compile/create your own plugins with a mix of IronPython 2, Python 3, or C#.
Hope this helps!
Edit:
Now that I’ve re-read your post, I realize I didn’t answer your specific question. GHPY components compiled on Windows should work in Rhino for Mac as long as they don’t use windows specific features. In a bit of testing, installing them on Mac works fine in Rhino 8.
That’s fantastic; encouraged by your edit I also installed Fennec on my Mac and certainly the most-used-by-me components are working. Thanks!
