Changing the clipping plane properties has no effect. I cannot change the section style, no hatch pattern can be made visible and when dragging the clipping plane the section changes from solid to none in an unpredictable way.
Am I doing something wrong or is it a bug?
Hi Erik,
It sounds like there might be multiple things happening here.
- I’ll assume that the objects you’re trying to clip have their section style property set to “By Clipping Plane”? If not, then changing the section style of the clipping plane won’t seem to have any affect on objects being clipped.

The dragging issue I’d like to know more about. Can you post a screen recording or something such?

Lastly, it would be good to know which service release of Rhino 8 you’re currently using. SR 6 is the most current.
Oops, I did not notice the clipping plane settings in the object properties. I will experiment more with the different settings by object/layer/clipping plane.
The Rhino version is: 8.7.24113.23001, 2024-04-22
Here’s a small clip of what happens while dragging the clipping plane. All objects and clipping plane section styles are by layer, layer section style is “none”.
If the region isn’t completely closed where the clipping happens the section could be defaulting to an open section when you let the mouse up. I think, when set to layers, there is no default section. If you can share the file with me I can take a deeper look.
You could try to add a section style and make sure Section open objects is checked to see if that changes things.
Thanks a lot, I will dive deeper into this.
