Change default template

Running V5. How do I change the default units template? It’s stuck in meters and I want to change to feet or inches whenever I want. The splash screen in the beginning gives me no option to set a default and there is no obvious way to do it once the program has opened. I found the other discussions on this very basic topic unhelpful.

While in Rhino, run the new command to get to the template file list. Either choose a different default template, or clear the check box that says to always use the default template. Then when you start Rhino you will have a choice again.

thank you, i had overlooked that for years

Hi everyone,

I’m new to using a Mac. Whenever I type the “New” command, a white box briefly appears for a second before the new template opens.

Is there another way to change the template besides using the “New” command?

Thanks for your help!

Hi -

The New command will start a new document that is based on the default template.

When you launch Rhino without any documents open, the Templates tab on the splash screen lists all templates, both standard and custom. Selecting one of those gives you the option to make that one the new default.

To add custom templates to that list, use the SaveAsTemplate command.
