Can spirograph work inside a polygon?

Dear all,

I want to make a spirograph pattern inside of polygonal shapes, but no matter what I do - it always breaks and flies away once I try to do it. Is there a solution to this? Or will it only work inside a circle?

Scale the Spirograph pattern inside the polygon. JFF.

Would that be the only possible solution?
