Bug - Simple Gumball Cut workflow

Ouch…

1/ Why does cutting with a line on surface does not work here, I have to extend the cutter to both sides. CreateSolid does just fine…
2/ Fantastic duplication of 4 polysurfaces when cutting vertically by a cutter that does not even pass through the top box ! And even with both sides the central piece os not cut in three pieces.
3/ All of this is done with the “Merge faces after extrude” option activated on the gumball, but it does not seem to merge faces at all. Does that only work with extrude ?

double check that the curve is actually coplanar with your surface… that works here-

if it is coplanar, grab the latest v8 wip…it may have been tuned up recently.

I do have the latest WIP according to the latest post on the main thread - dates back to 8 days ago.

Your simple case also works fine on my side. Please notice that in my example where it fails, the cut line is partially aligned with some edges of the shape. Since both CreateSolid and WireCut are working there I would definitely expect the Gumball Cut to also produce a decent result.

weird… works here. I’m using the 6-27-2023 build
unless I’m missing something…

Sorry to insist but I think you missed my first video

In your example (my second video), if you use the Boss option, the result faces are not merged even if the Gumball has this option enabled.

I tried to update my WIP which is from 2023-06-20 but it says no update is available. I guess I will retry that next Tuesday ?

ok, thanks for clarifying,
I misunderstood what i was seeing there…

I get a result if I pull the curves off the surface a bit and make them robustly overshoot the object.

Yes, I get this too. So this indicates cutters should be larger than the object when using the Gumball Cut, though CreateSolid and WireCut work perfectly without extending or moving the line.

This kinda lowers the point of Pushpull where the incentive is to draw everything on a face using snaps to edges… :disappointed_relieved:

yep, I get that…and agree. Thanks for bringing this up.
@Joshua_Kennedy any ideas for a tune up here?

Thanks @magicteddy

RH-75854 Gumball Cut doesn’t give result

RH-75853 gumball cut creates duplicate of objects that are close to the extrusions
