Blender Geometry Nodes

Yes, you are right, it will not normalize the input data.
In many cases this is fine. Like color, the bounds are fixed. But in other cases, like controlling distance, scale something to an exact size, this will be problematic. It must be not like this. I asked many questions about this on blender forums, but seems like nobody really care.
Hmm… maybe because it is not for production so the exact attributes control is not necessary?

now can do some basic grasshopper-like stuff online.

My experience here was not too good, fun for five minutes, but grasshopper has so many more tools etc.

Also found the computation pretty slow for even basic shapes.

But hey, you can do this on an airplane on your phone, so why not?

I asked this question on StackOverflow and I got a very good explanation.
I guess it is worth putting it here in case somebody tries to understand GN from the perspective of GH like me.
So in short Map Range can only scale something, not

GH, Houdini, Dynamo, and now BeeGraphy.
Using a web browser is a very good idea, very accessible.
