the deleted autosave files are stored in the trash in rhino v6 and v7 until you manually delete them.
we agree auto save is not ideal. Always open to ideas on how to improve it.

Stop calling it Autosave, because it doesn’t do what people think Autosave usually should. Call it EmergencySave instead.
Hello - this was the case but users complained that on network locations it was far too slow, so it saves locally now.
Please see Help on Autosave - and why the timer may not be what you expect.
Note it is not intended as a substitute for Save.
Feel free to turn it off if you think it is useless, of course.

That’s what I meant by my post above, most people think that Autosave will simply automatically save the file every X minutes - not an emergency copy, but just like hitting the Save button every X minutes.
changing the name to “crash save, or emergency save” makes a lot of sense. I agree “autosave” is entirely misleading.
“Emergency Save” feels more precise to me. It would certainly help disambiguate it from the macOS Versions “Autosave” feature that we employ over in Rhino for Mac. There have been requests to implement something like the Rhino for Windows “Emergency Save” feature in Rhino for Mac.
And how about implementing the option to simply automatically save the file (as in a normal save, overwrite the current saved version) every X minutes on the Windows side? You could call that one “Autosave”…
FYI Revit does exactly this, cyclically, over a definable number of autosave files.
Similar topic from 2019, but regarding the behaviour of Aurosave:
+1 for @Helvetosaur
That would be useful.
I apologize for restarting this conversation, I am new to Rhinoceros 7 and it has not been clear to me after reading all the messages if a solution has been sought.
Today 2023/03/01 I have realized that it is not. I have lost 30 minutes of work due to a power outage.
I think this is a very important issue that should be resolved. I have verified that the Autosave does not work, I have set it for every 5 minutes and it does not work, nothing appears in the specified folder. Another thing that catches my attention is when the *.bak file is generated it takes the creation date of the mother file as the creation date, which is somewhat confusing to me, and finally, which is something I was unaware of, that the Autosave files are sent to the recycle bin, that is much more strange and unusual, I would like to be the one who decides what I send to the recycle bin.
As a quick fix I have programmed the alarm on my Casio to go off every 10 minutes so I can remember to save manually.
I strongly pray for Autosave to work.
Hi Cesar - if you run the Autosave
command explicitly, do you get an autosave file?
-Pascal
yes i get it. But why isn’t it generated automatically?
Hi Cesar - if you set autosave for 5 minutes (or 1 minute…) and make some change in the file, and wait , with Rhino still open, does an autosave file appear?
-Pascal
I have already been doing tests after reading the Post with different times, and no, no file is generated.
For example, after writing Autosave on the command line, it has been generated (?) and I have made a duplicate of the drawing and several other objects, and after 5 minutes I do not see that the Autosave changes, neither the time nor its size.
There is something that has not been mentioned and I don’t know if it has something to do with it, I have 2 SSD drives, one where Rhinoceros is installed and the other where I have the files and from which I work, could that be a possible cause?
Hi Cesar - I would not mess with duplicating files etc.
A simple test

Sorry, I misunderstood the drawing, in this case it is a house, I made a copy so now I have two houses in my file.
I don’t think it’s necessary to think about it any more, the problem is already known and you just have to find a solution.
At the moment, knowing that it exists, we have to look for personal solutions, in my case, program my watch to ring every (x) minutes.
Thanks for your help.
Hello - it would be helpful to know what happens in the example I give above - so far I have not seen any evidence that Autosave is actually failing in your case, and I would like to verify that.
-Pascal
In my case, what I have already told. Autosave not working.
1_The normal method does not generate the Autosave file in the default location.
2_I do everything as you indicate in the message.
3_I write Autosave on the command line and check that a save file has indeed been generated.
4_I wait for the time configured for Autosave in my case 5 minutes…
5_Time passes and the changes are not reflected in the Autosave file.
6_I save it manually from File/Save… I check the Autosave folder, and effectively the file generated by typing Autosave from the command line is moved to the recycle bin.
“I rewrite about the same message after a few minutes.”
Apparently for some reason it works, but not in the configured time that now I have lowered it to 1 minute, it has done the AutoSave at 4 but it seemed to me that it was when I moved the mouse pointer. I don’t know if it’s normal or if it really has to be like that.
I will check again when I turn on the PC if it works, even if it is at the wrong time.
Thanks for the help
