Applying texture onto a 3d surface

Hi everyone

How would you go about applying this texture onto a 3d model?

I’ve tried ApplyDisplacement and Heightfield and it always just comes out lumpy

how heighfield generates it - which is the closest i could get it:

I’ve also used different versions of the image - some with higher contrast and sharper points to no avail

If you go to the thread below, I posted an example displacement file that you can try.

I’m having better results with this texture compared to most of mine. I’ll attach the file in case it helps. Similar to you I did a few different versions. Note that I’m using displacement and not “bump” in the physically-based texture settings.

We did a deep dive into this not too long ago and figured out a lot of stuff. It’s a little weird sometimes - Sometimes you have to increase quality, sometimes decrease. Pay special attention to the units and the scale of the object. If my object is really small I get a similar result to you.

With a little tweaking it’s a really really nice texture. The Ambient Occlusion helps it ‘pop’ and get the concaves to show up better. I’ve linked the texture to my normals but I’m not sure if that’s helping or not.

I’ll link to this site as it might help here. Haven’t tried it for this yet but for other textures it did really well considering it’s free.
