Airy and Bessel Point Cluster

Hi,

Edited: Corrected issue, where I was measuring back from the ends. Sorry. Screenshot updated

I still needed to test this, but I thought to make an Airy and Bessel point cluster. The cluster is crude and rudimentary, but might be handy.

Basically, Airy/Bessel points are where you should pick up a saggy bundle of roofing tiles using two arms. The Airy is measured from the surface, the Bessel, from the center plane of the bundle, as drooped, I think.

I will package up the cluster as soon as I test it. Perhaps it could be done more efficiently. I didn’t want to put a cluster in a cluster, though (and certainly not within itself : )

try to use expressions like this

Also I goofed, measuring from the ends, when I should have from the middle.

Well, I got it into a cluster. I wish I could just export a cluster. It’s been a while, and I have to find out again how to export/edit a cluster. I wish it were easier.

Anyway for now, there is the Grasshopper file.

Airy Bessel Cluster.gh (20.8 KB)

I tested it’s functions before I clustered it up. I still want to give it one more check.

And here it is in use. This is just a quickypoo drawing of a box-joint fixture for making them on a CNC machine. Sometimes I try to make fancy stuff; this isn’t it. This is a minimal, largely as-built drawing. I used the Airy points for what will be the clamp thumbscrew locations. It should give the work-piece even pressure.

I was looking for that, though the expression is pretty simple. Thank you.

u can export cluster as Create user object from the file menu

Thank you, but I can create the User object, but I cannot discover a way to export the cluster. It’s not under the File menu, and I cannot seem to right-click and export it. I didn’t notice anything under my laptop middle-click button, which, unlike the desktop mouse–works : )
