I find that Rhino has the best overall snapping functionality of any technical drawing software I’ve used.
For my purposes I generally find that I can set the snapping options as follows and then forget about them:
One exception I encounter are certain occasions when I want to snap from the centre of a circle to its circumference.
It’s a bit tricky to show/describe but in this case (with all line work in ortho) I find that in terms of snapping options, perp seems to exert a stronger influence than end or point. With care/delicate mouse control it is possible to snap to the circle control point or the end of a diameter ‘guide line’ but I don’t find this anywhere near as positive as the general Rhino snapping feel.
One solution is to temporarily disable perp. This works fine but is an exception to the ‘set and forget’ approach to snapping I generally enjoy in Rhino.
Another option might be to turn control points on for the circle before drawing the radius line.
It’s only a small thing but in the spirit of optimisation, can anyone suggest a better approach here?
Is there a way to assign a hot key to a specific snapping option?
Is there a way to adjust the ‘weighting’ of different snapping options – i.e. to ‘dial down’ the strength of perp a bit…?
