[8.5 BUG] Right-click broken on layer panel

Version 8 (8.5.24044.18002, 2024-02-13)

Contextual menu not showing when right-clicking

Seems to be working here in 8.5 with either a mouse right click or two-finger trackpad click…

Try with a new file that only has 1 layer

(edit: it also happens in 8.4.

SOMETIMES.
I am astonished of how much randomness / oddity is happening on this software)

I did… Tried again a couple of times and it seems to work consistently (here at least)…

Not for me
And not all the time

Random Rhino.

Hello,

I have the same problem on R 8, Version 8.7.24138.15432:
the possibility to rename or editing Layers vanishes after a while.
After restarting the file, it´s possible again for the next while, and so on…

Greetings

Same here (8.8.24163.12482). Changing the current layer is not possible until restarting Rhino because the Radio buttons for current Layer that we had in RH7 are missing. I also miss the possibility to rename the layer with a doubleclick on the name like in RH7.

Using only 1 Layer in all projects is not an option.

With all the other glitches and UX/useability downgrades and this bug, for me RH8 currently is not useable for my work. I feel it should be called a Beta.

Hi @David_Burkhardt1,

To set a layer current using the Layers panel, click in the “Current” column of the layer you want you to set current. You can also double-click the layer’s name (in the “Layer” column).

Alternatively, you can use the popup Layer panel on the status bar.

Thank you, i found it! It is still there like in RH7 but invisible. Apart from the Checkmark on the current layer there is no visual clue where this column is. It is quite confusing if you scroll down a Layer list and the current layer is not in vision, you have to pretty much guess where to klick. Because of that i preferred the radio buttons for not selected layers instead of an empty column.

Now that is a workaround for changing layers for now while the rightclick menu in layers still often does not show.

I have seen the popup layer menu for the first time. Looks good, but its an additional click and i’m already used to have all my Layers stacked with the object properties on the right. I don’t think it will improve my productivity if i learn to use that and it also does not give me more viewport real estate since i have to keep the right sidebar for the object properties anyways.

The column can be resized, by dragging, to reveal their label.

Also, the name of the current layer will be in bold text.
