3dm file viewer for 2D data

I have been asked if Rhino has a similar tool to this, for Win OS:

Some our customers within construction industry want to have a closer look to our solutions when pdf is not enough.

Hello @Piotr,

There are a couple of suggested third-party viewers in this thread, like Speckle, and one that is considered the “semi-official” solution by Rhino called Rview. The effort seems to have been targeted at IRhino, the official iOS viewer by Mcneel, which looks very well featured but sadly excludes Windows/Android users.

Alternatively, I had success exporting to a common file format like STEP and opening those files in any free viewer by the “big boy shop,” AKA Autodesk, SolidWork, etc.

Does your client prefers a web application or a free, downloadable desktop application? The desktop application could be from the same author as their current CAD tools that they are familiar with.

You summed it up nicely @ArchiCraig

I just want to add that if a downloadable desktop application is an option, Rhino can be used as a viewer for free beyond the 90 day evaluation period.

Hi Guys
Thanks for the info. I will, certainly, try it.
PS Clients can be different, some ar Ok with installing new things, some don’t. It also depends on a frequency. Single use doesn’t justify it.

Have you looked at Autodesk Online Viewer - https://viewer.autodesk.com/
You load the model and send them a link.
Opens on Win OS and ios, phones, tablets & computers.
Has layers, can section 3d & take dims.

Sadly, rview does not support 2D information, only display volumes. I need something quick, small, licence-free to open native 3dm file without need of converting to dwg, but I can see it may be the only way.
Rview has a poor antialiasing and won’t open some simple files (ca. 1MB).

You mentioned you were using PDF for the 2D but also want to to be able to show the 3D model.

You could try 3D PDF. Simlab has a Rhino plugin or a stand alone app.

However, I don’t know if it supports 2D and 3D in the same document view, although you could combine separate 2D and 3D pages into a single PDF.

Its kind of outdated technology now as the rendering is pretty limited, and its slow with large or complex models.

I don’t seem to have any issues opening 2d drawings straight from rhino.
To work with larger files, I convert model to other file type prior to unloading to AD Viewer, but it can handle some ok sized files.

It looks promising.
I was mislead by this choice

I will give it a try immediately.
Thanks for helping.
