Test Drive on a cloud

Hello,

I saw today a cloud service called fra.me. For me it looks very nice and I thought maybe Rhino 6 could also work on this system…

For info just look to https://fra.me/

Assuming this was technically possible, and had adequate performance (doubtful), what problem would having Rhino run as a cloud service solve for you?

Just curious…

Hi John,
Check out Otoys cloud and evaluate for your self if this is fast enough for 3D modelling… I was blown away…
(It does depend on your upload and download speed though…)
http://home.otoy.com/ Click on “Launch Demo” in the “Try Octane in your Browser” window.

What problem would this solve for you?

Hi John,

One benefit could be: no need for powerfull laptop or desktop. The dependence on hardware is swapped for dependence on a stable internet connection and the companies reliability.

Take a look at https://paperspace.io/

Look at that they even run Rhino on it:

Well at least there will be no issues with the licence server.

One big benefit is for Education and Trainings. Nearly every time you have the problem that some pc’s are not working very well or not every plug-In is installed, some people prefer mac… the list is endless  so with that possible solution you can bring everyone to the same standart…

And another thing of course is the mobility you can access nearly everywhere.

AAAND you can use ‘really’ Linux  as OS without a virtual machine.

Hey guys, I’m trying out AWS WorkSpaces, which is a service similar to the ones described here.

I’ve also opened a new thread on the forums.

Has anybody had any positive experience with cloud computing and Rhino?
