I’d like to propose a few features/options that could improve the experience when working with the layer panel:
Option to freeze the Layer column display (similar to “freeze panes” in Excel): this way, one could scroll back and forth the columns without losing sight of the corresponding layer (maybe the option is there already? I just could not find it anywhere…). I’m aware one could customize the column display (which columns and in which order), but oftentimes it is more useful to quickly scroll to the desired column for swift changes rather than toggling entire columns on and off and sorting them all the time… for example:
Header icons options: they might be displayed in place of the header text or replace the text when a narrow column width crops it; in any case, these options may be set by each user;
Option to adjust line spacing: even with only two options (ex. “compact” and “comfortable”)
Option to expand the Layer panel (and the container) to full table width by double-clicking on the left margin
4: You can make a button with a macro for yourself to toggle the container visibility with the second Layers Panel. I think this should be very close to fulfilling your wish. -Containers Show “Container Name” Toggle ENTER
The issue is that Rhino will not save your column spacing in the second Layers Panel after you restart the program nor allow you to filter it independently. (or it might mess up your first Layers Panel spacing).
Unfortunately, the staff has not yet recognized the issue, but we can join forces in asking for continuous development of one of the most (if not the most) important panels in Rhino.
Thank you for your reply, I don’t want to make a macro for something that, although appreciated, is not vital to me at the moment, but good to know there is that possibility.
