Currently, BoxEdit provides numerical controls for Position and Rotation, but while Position uses absolute coordinates, Rotation applies relative transformations.
I’d like to suggest adding an Absolute rotation mode, using the object’s Gumball orientation relative to the current CPlane.
The proposed behavior would be:
-
Relative (default): Keep the existing rotation behavior unchanged.
-
Absolute (CPlane): Display the current Gumball orientation as XYZ rotation angles relative to the CPlane.
-
Editing these values rotates the object together with its Gumball, preserving their relative orientation.
-
Setting Rotation XYZ to 0, 0, 0 aligns the Gumball axes with the CPlane axes, rotating the object accordingly while keeping the Gumball origin fixed.
The intention is not to relocate or reorient the Gumball independently of the geometry, but to numerically control the object’s orientation through its Gumball, using the CPlane as the reference.
This would make precise alignment of arbitrarily oriented objects much easier, without requiring auxiliary geometry or multiple manual rotations.
Since BoxEdit already provides numerical rotation controls, perhaps a simple Absolute checkbox next to the Rotation fields would be sufficient, keeping the existing relative behavior as the default.
