WIP for Mac viewports are distorted

Hi,

I got distorted viewports in new WIP for Mac version (working plane’s net is shown with gaps). Anybody knows a possible reason and how to solve it? Please refer to picture.

Thanks for advance, Natalia

Hi - please run the Rhino SystemInfo command. Copy the text and paste that in a reply here. Thanks.

Hi Natalia-

Thank you for reporting this and providing your system information. I have a similar MacBookPro8,2 model and I am able to reproduce your issue here, which is good news.

Now, the bad news…

This is an 8 year old MacBook Pro. Unfortunately, the maximum macOS version this model can be updated to is macOS 10.13.* (High Sierra); it cannot be updated to 10.14.*(Mojave). Fixing an OpenGL display pipeline problem on hardware this old is challenging to say the least. We cannot guarantee that we will be able to support this model in Rhino 6 for Mac.

Hi Dan,

Well, at least now I know what’s the problem). Thanks for information). It’s a first time this machine faced an Open GL limits). So I wasn’t familiar how the problem looks like.

Thanks,
N

Thanks for your understanding. I wish we had a better answer, but we don’t yet. One of the major changes between Rhino 5 and Rhino 6 (Mac and Windows) was a move to a more modern OpenGL pipeline. It is entirely possible that Rhino 5 for Mac is working just fine on your machine, but that’s cold comfort if you want to try the RhinoWIP…and for that I apologize.

You are right, Rhino 5 for Mac works fine on this computer.
No problem, anyway, I’ve been thinking to change a machine and waiting for an obvious reason.

N

FYI: We are tracking this bug in RH-51148. No promises this will be fixed, but we will dig a little deeper.

Okay. Thanks guys.

Bad news @natalia.josefson: after more investigation, we do not think we’ll be able to support the AMD Radeon HD 6750M GPUs in Rhino 6 for Mac.

Hi Dan!

I see. Thanks for trying guys! It’s priceless!

I bought a new machine and managed to start work in Rhino WIP for Mac but got some issue with viewports’ display too although it was not that serious like with viewports on my MacBook 8.2. I’ll post it soon.

Best, N

Yikes! The red viewports! You have the worst luck…but hopefully we can solve that one. Thanks for your patience.

Hi,
some problems with clipping plane…

Hi - I’m not seeing that here with a simple model.
Could you please run the SystemInfo command and post the result here. Also post a model that shows this behavior on your system, please.
Thanks!

We believe we may have fixed this issue with older Macs in the latest 6.21 Release Candidate for Rhino 6 for Mac.

We have not been able to do testing on all the Mac models that were reporting this issue, but we did confirm the fix on at least one model.

If you were unable to use Rhino 6 for Mac before, please test again with the latest Release Candidate and you might be in luck.
