Why isn't my custom section style showing?

My viewport is in shaded.

I have set shaded display mode to use section styles.

This is my custom section style, but I see not pattern and no magenta and no yellow. Also, how can I tell it to not fill in the cut?

plane and cone.3dm (77.1 KB)

PS: Having plane settings all over the place is terrible ux design. The viewport should have nothing to do with the way a clipping plane works or displays. It is inherently different than any other object.

In this case the plane is not being shaded, like a polysurface, where you can edit if it display edges or what not, in this case the plane is cutting something and you should edit how it cuts and display in the settings of the plane or section style alone.

Linetypes for instance, analogues to Section Styles, do not have additional settings per display mode. It would be madness, and current clipping plane settings are just that, madness.

This is another case of Rhino implementing new stuff (section styles) over existing old stuff (display mode clipping plane settings) and letting it all cohabit together in one big mess.

Select your cone and in object properties panel set its section style to By Clipping Plane.

Thank you Nathan.

Additional question, how can I make it not fill the cut?

I will just say this is even further away from ideal, having to tweak 3 settings in 3 different places to have a working clipping plane is crazy.

Well, for that you have the fourth place: in the Display panel towards the bottom uncheck Show Edges and Show Fills.

(which is still three if you do that through the ‘regular’ display mode settings dialog).

Oh its this setting, but its grayed out and set to section styles!

Hear! hear!
