Why does WB catmull create such ugly meshes and how do I fix this?

Was experimenting with nodes and I can’t seem to get a nice smooth node. Reverse engineering a code my prof did, and his one turned out smooth af, so I’m really not sure what i’m doing wrong?

I dont have his code anymore, just super blurry photos that look like these components were used.

Ugly mesh in input so ugly mesh on output! You have long triangular mesh so it gives bad subdivided mesh. You need nice quads. On Rhino 7 you could use Quad Remesher or others tools to make the node (fattener, subd …)
