Why does raytrace remain heavily pixelized?

With R9 and a MacminiM3Ultra raytrace is done in 2 seconds but remains heavily pixelized.

what’s your sample count?

an example image, or better: example file, would help diagnosing the issue.

Here is the retraced result

This looks cool. What is it?

It’s an imaginary world.

Run the Options command and look in the Rhino Render settings. There is a slider there for viewport sharpness… is it all the way to the right?

Hi Brian,
I had already changed the slider to the half way point. I put it at the minimum but I haven’t noticed any change. What I have done is to export my drawing back to R8. There are some pauses when working but nothing compared to R9. The slider was all the way to the right in R8. In R9 I thought I could separate the different sections into different windows to work on a smaller file separately but when I tried to do a copy/paste the window sort of froze. Meaning the part that I wanted to copy remained yellow but the window moved if I wanted to change the vue.

Looks like you are reporting several issues here. But the issue what this thread is about is solved by moving the slider that Brian mentioned all the way to the right.

If you have performance issues, pls run _SystemInfo in Rhino and post back the results, and upload a file that gives you these performance issues

I had moved the slider thinking things would be faster. I moved it all the way to the right but it doesn’t seem to change anything. I repeat that I exported the drawing to R8 and it works better there. I will run the SysInfo and send it with this.

SysInfo7:11.txt (4.8 KB)

Another observation. I just copied a texture into my file of textures, no problem there, however, I clicked on the color bar to change colors and the pizza turns for at least a minute before I can continue. No other action was done.

to the left is fast, more pixelated, all the way to the right is as pixel perfect as possible. You will have to restart the raytraced viewport (switching to a different view mode and back) to see the results update.

It would be helpful then to share the file so that we can try to repeat what you are experiencing.

I can send the file but it is quite large. Send me a link for that.

Hi Joe -

Gijs already provided a link for that:

Couldn’t do it. File too big for your transfer system.

This is a raytrace question. When I choose raytrace it doesn’t always function in the same way. Sometimes I get the orange bar at the bottom of the window and I see the differentcalculations or information taken into account then raytrace starts going from big to small pixels till it’s done. That process shows a time of about a minute and fifteen seconds; Sometimes I see the orange bar and a few Items of info then the stream stops and, I suppose, there is that same time lapse and the image appears and the time shown in the gray bar is 4/5 seconds.
