What is valence?

It is a way to say “number of” I think. It comes from chemistry, at least that’s where I know it from, where it means the number of bonds that an atom has in a molecule.

Which component is that by the way?

I know this, but in the case of points, I cannot understand the logic. What connections are we talking about? Is it to exclude the same points?

Yeah pretty much. It refers to an amount associated with some object.

It means edges are only selected if they are coincident with N or more points, where N is the valence.
