What is best flatten surface technique to preserve area?

What is the best flattening surface technique to preserve area? I want to flatten the surface for a cloth 2d cutter to fit that surface in real life (the surface comes from a 3d scan). I’ve heard about the exactflat plugin but I wonder how good it is using pure Rhino for that. I`ve thought about: UnrollSrf, UnrollSrfUV, Smash, Squish, CreateUVCrv

I`ve heard that is needed to check the area after and before flattening to be sure that we have almost the same area after flattening. Do you have any experience with that? I mean which command works best in a scenario like that? Maybe there is some other command for that.
