Volumetric Materials

Hello, I come from the glass industry. In order to be able to show the color loss in glasses with different wall thicknesses, we need volumetric materials like in Blender or Vray. Are there any plans for this in the near future? Cycle for Rhino is fast but not yet good enough for glass. Attached an example.

@nathanletwory would be the man to answer that question

At the moment there is no way for users to really create their own materials, and we don’t have separate volumetric controls for things like glass.

It is on our roadmap to expose all the shader nodes of Cycles and provide a way to create custom materials - probably building on the Grasshopper interface. But that isn’t going to happen anytime soon.

It’s a shame that you have to use Blender as an additional tool in schools.
Wouldn’t it be possible to just add a fog node (Vray) to the glass material without thinking about all the Blender nodes? This would do an incredible service to realism.

Not a fog node no, it’d be the volume absorption node from Cycles, as that is what we use for Rhino Render and Raytraced.

I’ve logged the request as RH-79997 Improve glass material

That would be great. Thanks to the team
