similar topics have come up a few times… for example:
personally, i think it would be a lot quicker and more fluid if the named views were somehow integrated into that bar…
we’d get one-click access to all our custom views which, to me, makes it more friendly for the user as well as more likely to be used as a presentation tool…
as is now, with it in the sidebar, i have to first switch to the palette, do my thing, then change it back to the palette i use while modeling (i generally use three… Layers, Objects, History)… i suppose i could add a fourth but it would be too crammed i think…
another sort-of issue is unless your Views panel is open, you can’t see a list of your views… and as i said before, it’s not entirely practical to have the Views panel active at all times because there are more ‘valuable’ panels to visible in that area of the screen during modeling.
if you use the keyboard instead (namedView command), you’re actually switching between the keyboard and mouse (twice) and can’t use only one of them…
it’s usually at least 4 clicks for me to switch views… the multiple clicking also isn’t too good when you’re trying to compare two views… it’d be better to just one-click when doing that.
and, it seems like the space is available without interfering or even altering the existing UI.
