View capture darkens objects

Hi,
When I use _viewCaptureToFile (or _viewCaptureToClipboard) it significantly darkens the objects in view. Is there a way to fixt that and actually capture what’s in the view?

Thank you for your ideas

That might be due to the graphics card driver. I’d check if there is an update available from the manufacturer. Provide the results of your SystemInfo command and a sample 3dm file if you still need help.

Thank you for your reply. Please note that this happens on all our company computers regardless of age and hardware setup.

Thanks, This appears to be due to the transparent background option. I’ve filed https://mcneel.myjetbrains.com/youtrack/issue/RH-76124 for the developers to look into it.

Just noticed the release target for Rhino 8.1. That is kind of sad since we bought R7 because of it´s capability to produce reasonable quality renders with metalic materials instantly (with view capture). Is there any chance this bud will be fixed in R7? If not can this be solved by any sort of workaround?

Thanks

Hi,

the issue seems fixed in R7, was this intentional? Haha

Don´t know about R8 because I´ve lost access since the release.

But anyway, thanks for all the fish

Hello,

I was wrong - the issue isn´t fixed, but it has to do with ambient light. During view capture to file the ambient light turns from whatever to 0,0,0.

Hope this helps and really really really really hope this could be fixed in R7. Or at least if a suitable workaround could be provided. I don´t think the solution to a bug in something featured as an advancement in R7 should be buying R8. What is your view on the matter?

Thank you

Hi @kral ,

I’ve added your request that any fix be added to a v7 service release as well. Typically the only reason it wouldn’t in a case like this is if there were a development reason that a change wouldn’t work there. I can’t say for sure though and I don’t set the release target myself, that is for the developer to determine based on how the code works.

You should be able to use the 90 day evaluation of Rhino 8 as well now but this is not a permanent solution for when this specific issue is fixed. It’s still open.

Hello,

is there any progress on this issue? It´s been a while.

Hi,

the lights are still off

Hi,

there is still a major difference between transparent and nontransparent background.

I would welcome any solution or workaround.

Thank you
