Could we have zebra stripes (and emaps for that matter) that can be manipulated and played across surfaces without moving the object - this is possible in the VSR/Autodesk Shape Plug-In.

I see there is a new dialog box for Zebra stripes. Thats nice! Now the criticism. VRS you could move the stripes with a widget. @Peter_Salzman would know what I am talking about. Please impliment such widget. Unless I missed something? —Mark
Hi Mark -
“Move the stripes with a widget” doesn’t tell me much. Did you try the “Direction” option?

This feature is still being worked on. I’m hoping to have something to talk about in a week or two. Our automatic announcement of feature fixes system kicked off when I had marked some of the items for zebra as fixed. I still need to do some tune ups to how the dialog works.
Wim, @stevebaer ,
What we need to define is a vector, so would be possible to implement this like the manual sun position setup?
Azimuth and Altitude may work.
Next to this also the same option available for the DraftAngleAnalisys would help in setup the desidered direction.
Thanks
Riccardo
Have you tried the new zebra?
Ehm… not yet. it’s the next thing I’m going to do
Done. New Zebra (briefly) tested
Ehm… yes it has already lot of options.
I like the dotted version, very useful to show bumpiness.
Thanks Steve
Hi Steve,
Playing around with the new zebra I’ve the feeling that the stripes are a bit blurry.
It’s maybe just me and I don’t know the complexity behind but the old crispy stripes look more “precise”.
It’s more a feeling than a fact but can change the user perception.
This is certainly something that we can tune. There is some blurring between adjacent stripes to avoid harsh aliasing. When you are using the Rainbow Mode, at 100% size you’ll get no blurring between the adjacent stripes.
There are a lot of knobs and levers to tweak now with the new zebra system. This is also all available in RhinoCommon. I plan on putting a grasshopper definition together that will expose all the inputs involved so we can play and figure out settings that would work well for users.
@skysurfer In the next WIP, you can adjust the blur:
Interesting!
I’ll try it.
To be honest I can’t see the reason why have it blurried… but I need to try and maybe I found it useful.
From a visualization point of view it could be interesting,
this new zebra is a different technology, no longer image based, as far as I understood. That means the stripes can get a bit harsh when they become tightly packed. Let us know what value works best for you.
Yes, the new zebra is completely different than the old one. Blur is probably useful for some modes and not for others (the distance and cylinder modes haven’t been discussed here yet.) Right now it is helping out with some aliasing effects in stripes and dots modes, but that may not be necessary if I can improve the algorithm for anti-aliasing.
Hi Steve, will the movement of the light line be possible in Rhino as it is in video?
Thank you, Mark
Currently the light line can be set by pushing the Direction button. There is no onscreen widget to move the light line around as shown in the video. This is something I’m trying to figure out how to implement in a way that is easy to work with.
