Using UV editor and flow for pavements along curve

Hi forum,

I’ve been trying for some time now, to make a planar surface resembling a paved pedestrian path. I once found a forum post, or maybe it was a video, where you could use the UV editor along with the “flow” command to straighten the UV surface shape, so that the pavement pattern followed the selected curve, instead of just having a single orientation. I remember that you had to get the length of the curve, and then make a new linear curve with the same length as the target curve.

Does anyone know how to do this? Whenever I try to flow the surface to the new linear target curve, it distorts my surface.

I managed to solve it myself after numerous of tries. I had to get the length of the mesh in the UV editor, and not the original surface, and the flow the base curve to the equivalent-distance target curve.

Hi @Marcus_Lorentzen ,

I’m glad you figured it out, thanks for the update. In Rhino 8 you can use the constraint in the UVeditor for Edge Straightening to make an edge chain on an island a straight line. It’s much faster than then the old Flow technique. If you need any more help, post a simple 3dm please with the texture map and object.
