Using backspace in material editor deletes material not letter

Hi Rhino Team,

It seems like this bug has been around for a while:

When I try to rename a material in the material editor, the backspace key will try to delete the matieral instead of the letter. Theres always a pop-up that asks if I want to delete this layer. I already clicked “no” a hundered times, and then tought "hm, let’s click no and set the marker for “do not ask again”. Well that was obviously the wrong decision beacuse now it always instantly deletes the material.

Is this a bug or is there some kind of setting / work around that I don’t know of? I couldn’t find anything helpful in the Forum.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Cheers,

Tom

Hi Tom - thanks we’ll check it.

Ps. This does not happen when I edit layer names, named positions or named views.

@tom5 is this still an issue for you. If so, can you run _SystemInfo in Rhino and post back the results?

there was an issue with this in 8.0 that should be resolved. In any case I could not reproduce the behavior you are describing.

Hey Gijs,

Well it seems like something was / is off in general. Not nessecarily with Rhino itself but maybe my system / machine in combination with Rhino. But I also think Rhino has no longer deleted any materials again.

I had one of many many crashes the other day. But this one was rather extreme and afterwards my entire Rhino interface was empty. Restarted the Mac and opened Rhino. Still the same. So I reset everything and rearranged my entire workspace. And eventually saved the window layout. just so I would not have to do it again.

The weird thing is, when I then opened some files I worked in before or during the crash, Rhino opened the files but again with an empty workspace. Like it’s remembering the old settings.

Another thing, trying to change material names causes problems when working in a file for a longer time (multiple saves). And I don’t know why. Sometimes it takes up to 4 or 5 tries before I can even rename a material - after pressing enter it would jump back to its previous name. And it doen’t matter if I slow double-click to just rename it in the material list, or fast double-click it oben the material’s pop-up.

Also the sort alpahetically feature does not always work properly. I sometimes have to change the way the materials are arranged a couple of times and select arrange by name again before it actually sorts them the right way.

Anyways, I attached the file you requested. Maybe it allows you guys for some better insight. Because Rhino runs extremely unstable on my Mac. I know it’s a new version and all but I am just not used to that from my previous Rhino machines.
