Unwrapping texture mapping interferes with opacity from alpha channel. With Box or Surface Mapping it works ok.

@Czaja - actually, I do not see it consistently at all. The mapping of the transparency changes but does not disappear - can you try with that image in the color channel as well? Does that continue to show?
