Units are differents when I import from Maya

Hello,
I’m facing some issues regarding units and how they are interpretated from a software to another.
I created a model in Autodesk Maya, with my units in millimeters, the model is 26 mm long.
Then, I exported this model as an OBJ file and import this OBJ in Rhino.
Rhino is set in millimeters as well, but somehow, when I use the Linear Dimension tool and I measure my model, it gives me 2.6 mm.
A scale of 10 is applied and I don’t know why or how, as none of any dialog boxes is showing such options during export from Maya, or import in Rhino.

My model is freeze transformed before exported, so scaling should not give any issues.

Now, I know how to resolve the problem, by scaling up my model, or by switching units in Rhino to cm, but I would like my model to keep the units I modeled and exported it with, without having to change something afterwards.

I’m fairly new on Rhino so there might be some options that I’m not aware of, I would like some help to figure this out please.

Hi -

The obj file format is unitless. If you export a 13 meter box from a meters template and import the obj file into a millimeter template, the box will be 13 mm.
It appears that Maya is making assumptions when exporting that file…

I understand. So I should try another file format that includes units options, like FBX.

Thank you
