I have been trying to create a planar surface through a set of closed curves for a wall, but executing the command leads to a prompt saying there are intersecting curves so a surface could be generated using the curve boolean method. That results in a planar surface different than I intend to have.
Have a look at the Help file article for the command.
That group of curves is not appropriate input for the command.
They might be if you didn’t select any of the interior curves.
