Trouble Moving Vertices with the Slide Tool in a SubD Model

Hello everyone,

I’m trying to learn how to use the SubD tool to refine a chair design in mesh, imported from SketchUp.

I’m following this tutorial, which I found really good:

I’m not sure why, but I can’t use the slide tool on multiple vertices that I select.

Any idea what might be happening? Any study material recommendations?

I really appreciate any help!

you have an ngon in that ara, there is nothing for the vert to slide on.

add an edge to connect across that ngon and slide works as expected.

also slide works a lot easier if you are in box mode.

Thanks for your reply! I didn’t know about ngons, I’ll search and learn more about them. Strange, I thought the lines near the vertex were edges. In my video, I was in Box Mode. I’ll try to rebuild this part. Anyway, I’m finding it pretty hard to model this chair with SubD—maybe I’ll try something else.

There’s so much to learn here! I’ll look for an online course to improve my skills
