In the attached I have:
At the left a 2-curve loft that I have tried to join with the result being a bad surface (this is after an attempted join)
At the right I have a sweep2 using the same outlines. I don’t get the errors when joining.
I would think the two would be equivalent.

Yes they look pretty similar but we can’t tell anything just from those 2 objects.
Without the input curves and the setting used with Loft and Sweep2 it is difficult to determine the cause of the differences.
Both surfaces have multi-knots. The curvature combs of the surfaces suggest the input curves have something unusual.
