Support for AutoCAD Complex Linetypes (Batting, GAS_LINE) in Rhino

Subject: Support for AutoCAD Complex Linetypes (Batting, GAS_LINE) in Rhino

Hi McNeel Team and Community,

I’ve encountered an issue when importing DWG

LintypeScaleBatting.dwg (70.1 KB)

files from AutoCAD into Rhino. Complex linetypes—specifically those like “Batting” (insulation), “GAS_LINE”, and “HOT_WATER_SUPPLY”—lose their visual properties and are rendered as simple continuous lines or basic dashes.

In AutoCAD, these linetypes rely on shape definitions or text strings, but Rhino doesn’t seem to interpret these complex patterns natively during import.

I have a few questions regarding this:

A. What is the technical reason why Rhino cannot display these complex linetypes exactly like AutoCAD?

B. Is there a current workaround or plugin that allows these to display correctly without manually redrawing them?

C. Are there plans to implement full support for shape-based or complex linetypes in Rhino 8 (via updates) or the upcoming Rhino 9?

Having this feature would significantly improve the workflow for architects and engineers moving between CAD and Rhino for detailing.

Best regards,

We have that feature request on our list: RH-88878 Support linetypes with shapes in DWG I/O
I’ve added your post.
