Suggestions for creating a planar ETFE cushion roof

Hello,

I have been looking into options for creating an ETFE cushion roof. There are a few different approaches that I have found. I am planning to further refine the cushions by adding photovoltaic film strips that lay on the bottom panel of each cushion, like the example below:

The roof shape is a regular parallelogram with a cutout:

I first tried to assess the UVs to see if they would enable me to create some working subdivisions but they aren’t aligned with the skewed edges, so I’m not sure if they will be useful. Is there a mesh tiling method that would be better?

Thanks for any suggestions.

I am working in Revit and found it very easy to create ETFE-like cushions using adaptive panels. I am also able to select the panels and should be able to process them in grasshopper to develop the PV strips.

Pretty good result, this may be the way to go.

Thanks

I ended up running into an issue with the adaptive panels - it wouldn’t account for voids cut out from the roof. So I went back to the inflate method. It ended up being extremely easy to do. I tweened curves to get the necessary subdivisions, offset these to get the mesh panels, and fed into this definition, clicked run and hoped for the best.

Worked on the first try:
