I use the Grasshopper tool that uses Sparrow engine. From what I see your tool could be awesome for people who don’t want to invest time in Grasshopper. But I think it needs a sheet size. From what I see it is just a Width and infinite length. Width And Length are quite mandatory for useful use with laser cutter, cnc …

By the way thanks for the development of such algorithm, I use it quite for all the nesting I am doing.

Variational cutted lamp

Here is my last lamp I made. It has yet no name. [IMG_8423] It is done in 1 mm thick aluminum, 42 bands are optimized via Variational Cutting with Kangaroo. It is a continuation of this project that was done in wood but was half a success. I use a lot Nautilus tools and it library to make it. Here you can see the whole script. The only lack is the nesting of pieces with big holes (that can be filled with other piece).

OpenNest - user feedback

Hi @Petras_Vestartas I will send you this in DM, 135 pieces of Pat Def table [image] There are sheet of 600 x 600 mm and 400 * 600 mm. A professional tool gave me this MagPie Nest [image] [image] I didn’t go too deep in Open Nest with this one as I have a very good packing, but I’ll have new jobs and no more access to MagPie. For this type of geometry I began to make some simplification tools (suppress some holes, offset 2 times to smooth …).

And if you want the dxf of pieces I can send them to you.

Thanks, and apparently one OpenNest’s methods (nest_physics) is based on sparrow.
I was unaware of that, cool!
