SolidWorks 2025 import

Hi, we are highly dependent on being able to import SolidWorks files directly into Rhino. We are just learning that the most recent Rhino release will not import SolidWorks 2025 files. Is there any word on if/when this will be updated?

Thanks,
Eric

In SOLIDWORKS 2024 and later, SOLIDWORKS parts, assemblies, and drawings created or saved in the latest version of SOLIDWORKS can be saved as fully functional documents within earlier versions of SOLIDWORKS. Documents can be saved back to prior releases.

If it is 2023 or 2024, I believe it can be read.

Hi Eric -

Could you provide the source of that information?
I see that our help file on SolidWorks import states:

Rhino reads SOLIDWORKS file formats up to version 2025.

I don’t have SW 2025 files to verify that…

Hi Wim, I uploaded a SW 2025 file for you to try. I get the msg “Can’t open that file”

Hi Eric -

Thanks. That seems to open just fine in a 8.20 release that is a bit older than the current public service release candidate:

Which version of Rhino are you running?

Wicked. I was just able to import a 2025 Solidworks file I could not import a month ago.
SW2025 support must have been added to in Rhino 8 and 9 WIP in the meantime?

I’m on (8.18.25100.11001, 2025-04-10)

Eric

Hi -
This was added to 8.20, of which a first public service release candidate was released yesterday.
