Simple killer laptop for Rhino3D and Flamingo

Next to my normal computer I am looking for a dedicated simple killer laptop to run only Rhino3D and Flamingo when I am working at a client location.

A lot of geometric and nurbs modeling (50MB+ files) and some neet but simple renderings
Price below 2000,- euro

Who can help with choosing the killer laptop with the following specs:
i7 qaudcore
4GB Video
SSD
17inch

I was considering
ACER Aspire V3-772G-747A321.26TBDWAK
17,3 inch LED
Intel Core i7-4702HQ
32 GB
256 GB SSD + 1 TB HDD
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 760M (2 GB)
1600,- euro

good option?

I just spec’d out a new machine for myself yesterday, and these graphs were pretty useful in figuring out where the different components rank.

Dan

Hi Dan, thanks for your support. What machine did you choose?

I’m getting a desktop from Dell with the Intel Xeon E5-1620@3.6Ghz processor, the Nvidia Quadro K4000 graphics card, and a solid state drive. This will scream compared to my current Xeon @ 2 ghz. My current processor is ranked 444 so the new one at 37 should be substantially faster.

Dan

Hi Dan, you mean something like the Precision T3600 E5-1620 with an sad? specs looks amazing

Yes, that’s the one. If I had it right now, I would finish the renderings I’m doing tonight and wouldn’t have to come in tomorrow!! I should have done this a while ago. It’s just such a PITA getting a new computer that I put it off until it’s obvious I can’t put it off any longer (which is now).

Dan

Yeah sounds familiar!
What made you decide on the Xeon E5-1620 vs i7 3770? The i7 ranks a little higher and is more widely available and maybe a bit better value for money?

That Xeon processor seemed to be the best performance for the money of the 6 or so that Dell offered for that machine configuration. I guess that’s the downside of Dell. The selection of components is sparse. The machine I configured also had $900 off, so that helped with the decision.

Dan

Hi Dan, did you get your new Rhino/render monster? does it do the job and can you recommend the machine?

No, I don’t have it yet. Should be delivered next week. The power of this system should be impressive, but moving to a new computer is always a hassle. I think I have everything I need backed up, but of course I forgot something. That’s always how it goes.

Dan

Good luck Dan! For various reasons I choose a HP laptop with i7 4702MQ - 16GB - GeForce GT750M. The CPU ranks nr 9 on the laptop PassMark. Hope the whole configuration will suit my needs. Thanks for the support
