Sidebar questions

Hi,

Is there a way to configure the main sidebar container so that when clicking on an horizontal toolbar (like SubD Tools), it displays the corresponding creation tools ? Basically what happens in V7 for curves, solids, subD, meshes.

Right now the only way I can do this is by adding all toolbars in the container, and I still have to click on the main icon to get to the tools.
Obviously I could have all toolbars shown, but with curves, surfaces, solids, subD, meshes… well no place remains for the 3D View. Not usable.

Is there also a possibility that the sidebar appears without clicking on the icon, but just hovering the mouse on it ? Could be useful especially in vertical mode or unpinned mode.

Last but not least, an annoying bug with the menu when the sidebar is unpinned, it vanishes with the sidebar.

That’s the default behavior. The main sidebar is a special container in that sense. It looks to me in your setup you have closed that special container, since normally it doesn’t have a gear icon.

no, but I can see this being useful
RH-75849 Unpinned sidebar: show toolbar when hovering

yes, this is a known bug, I added this thread to it.
RH-73342 UI Appearance: Rhino hides when hovering over unpinned settings menu

I reverted back to the original layout and it works indeed, which made me understand my mistake.
If I remember I closed this one by mistake, then went to the container menu and checked Main, thinking it would be this sidebar. :man_facepalming:
I then tried to alter the behaviour in the Container Manager, but Rhino Sidebar is not visible there, is there a reason for that ?

Anyway thanks for taking the time to answer those questions.
As a side note, should I systematically tag someone from McNeel team when reporting bugs ? If so, who ? Because there are several bugs that have gone unnoticed and are probably lost forever now due to the amount of threads on the forum.

If you want you can always tag me, Wim or Pascal. If you notice yourself an answer is taking longer than expected, feel free to bump the thread or tag any of us.

what would you like to change? I will need to ask why this part of the UI is not exposed

I was trying to see if by adding more toolbars in the container “Main” I could make the sidebar change dynamically. Not seeing the Rhino Sidebar there really made me think that it was the correct container I was trying to modify.

I see, that’s a good point, I’ll discuss this internally and get back.

It was not so clear if there’s a way to bring back this dynamic side bar without restoring to default
and having to redo all the ui customization?

Is there even a ‘command box free’ side bar for Mac?
Or does it mean that by using the excellent floating command prompt one forfeit the benefit of the dynamic side bar…?

thanks a lot

Checking this container works here.

Thanks
It’s not there on the Mac, there’s this Hosted one that is not showing on yours…?
I tried clicking on it but nothing happened.
