Hi everyone,
I have some rebars modeled as closed polysurfaces in Rhino 8, and I need to send them to Tekla Structures 2024.
Currently, I don’t have a concrete mass modeled in Rhino 8 or Tekla, so I’m wondering if there’s a way to achieve this using the Grasshopper-Tekla Live Link or any other plugin.
I’ve been searching online but haven’t found a clear solution yet. Do I need to focus on specific workflows or plugins to get Tekla to interpret these polysurfaces as rebar objects?
Any guidance or tips would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance!
Hi Josep,
Really the only way to get them into Tekla as true rebars is to find their centerlines (+diameters) and use that as input for the Rebar components from the live link. This info isn’t trivial to extract from surfaces - there’s some discussion about it elsewhere on the forum, but not sure if the proposals would do anything on polysurfaces.
I assume these bars have been modelled using centerlines in whatever tool they were authored with, so it would be much better if you could get hold of that data instead.

Hi Sebastian, thanks for the reply. Now i have the centerlines but i dont have a clue how to send the rebars to tekla. Aparently i only can create bars straight with the Tekla component but i dont know how to use the centerlines in tekla. Could you give me some tips please
thanks
Great!
You could download the “Reinforcement Demo Definition” example on the link’s Warehouse page (Versions tab). That will contain some Single Bars made from individual centerines.
If the bars are somewhat regularly grouped it’s usually better to create them as Rebar Groups, as this gives you less to clean up in the drawings and reports. This requires slightly different input, which could be e.g. the first and last bar centerline and some spacing attributes. There are examples of that as well in the above definition.

Thanks Sebastian
I already saw the examples but i cound find anything with rebars. Maybe im looking in the wrong place
It’s a separate download:
But yeah it gets pushed to the bottom, should probably include it in the installer zip package as well.

Thank you so much Sebastian!
Big fan. The example was very illustrative. Just new problems trying to export curves/radius. THe good thing its i keep moving
thanks a lot!!!
