Selection patterns with the Selectinator plugin

Hi All!

Here’s a new plugin to help with selections and patterns. Grow and cull sub-object and control-point selections with an interactive slider. The ‘Selectinator’ panel works with control points or mesh/SubD sub-objects (vertices, edges or faces). Simply drag a slider to grow or shrink the selection. Growth modes include Spherical, Box, Curve (curve control points), UV (NURBS grids), Edge Loop / Edge Ring, Face Loop and Vertex Loop (Along / Across / Both). Shape the result with pattern filters: Every-Nth, Random, Gradient falloff, motif Tiling, and fractals (Hilbert, Peano, Moore, Dragon, Sierpinski, Vicsek, Cantor Dust).

You can find it in the PackageManager command in Rhino 8 or the 9 Beta (Mac/Windows). Below is a intro video to get you started if needed.

Thanks, it really does look very promising, but many times it doesn’t seem to respond correctly when trying to transform a selection created with it, especially when dealing with a double-curved or organic object. Okay, I can scale or transform it, but in which direction? Which normal? Selecting is fine, but then… do I need to create a group to work in a specific direction, etc.? Could you tell me how to work with the selection after it’s been created? It doesn’t seem to work quite right with just Gumball.

Can you give me a specific example to help with? There’s likely a certain command and workflow to get what you want. The Selectinator itself works best with a logical grid but you can use named selections to expand the possibilities.
